Episode 12 - The Circular Lifecycle of Shipping Materials with Aleksandra Plewa
Episode 12 of The Green Route with MAREDI Design is out now! Be sure to check it out on your favorite streaming platform, such as Apple Podcasts or Spotify , or by clicking here.
For this episode, we had the chance to speak with Aleksandra Plewa, founder and CEO of EcoShip, a Chicago-based non profit focused on collecting gently used shipping materials for distribution to small businesses. With a mission to combat waste and support small businesses in the community, Aleksandra explains the growth and evolution of her endeavor.
Her mission is simple: collect gently used shipping materials and packaging which are then sorted and prepared for distribution to small businesses. Last year alone, they managed to save small businesses over $15,000 just in shipping supplies costs. And along the way, they discovered the inherent mission of EcoShip: diverting waste from the landfill!
Aleksandra tells us about some of the challenges they have faced, some proud moments (like collecting the equivalent of two Statue of Liberty's of stacked mailers) and how this model is scalable. She shares some of the many ways in which we all can join and support this non profit, either within the local community or from afar.
This is a particularly exciting episode for us as we were early adopters/donators to Ecoship! It's been truly incredible to see the growth of this non profit with such an impactful mission. Perhaps it will inspire others to tap into hyperlocal initiatives in their own communities.
And after you listen, don't forget to leave a review and let us know what you think, or share any takeaways that you have. If there are other topics around sustainability that you would like us to explore in future episodes, we would love to hear from you!
See you down the Green Route 😊
